LGV C1 (up to 7.5T) Driver Training
About the licence
LGV C1 (7.5T) is a vehicle that exceeds 3.5 tonnes in gross weight, up to a maximum of 7.5 tonnes.
By passing your LGV C1 licence, you will be able to drive vehicles with a maximum gross weight of 7.5tonne, with a trailer no larger than 750kgs maximum authorised mass.
You are able to sit your category C test at the age of 18, providing that you already hold a category B (car) driving licence. You do not need to have held your licence for a certain period of time.
Entry requirements
Prior to practical training, you will need to:
complete a medical assessment in order to apply for your provisional licence
pass the relevant LGV theory tests
We are able to arrange these elements for you as part of our LGV Starter Pack.
The Course
Our category C1 driver training course is completed on a 1-to-1 basis over 1 and a half days, including your practical test.
The practical driving test is made up of two parts:
Module 3A: an ‘S shaped’ reverse exercise into a loading bay
You will practice this exercise at our private test facility throughout your driver training course. When you feel ready, our in-house delegated assessor will conduct and sign-off this part of the test.
Module 3B: a 60 minute on-the-road drive
This will be conducted by a DVSA driving examiner at the end of your practical training course.
Driver CPC
If you intend on using your LGV licence professionally (i.e. use your licence for work purposes/to be paid as a driver), you will need to complete your LGV Driver CPC qualification.
