PCV D (Bus) Driver Training

About the licence

PCV D is a vehicle that exceeds a 16 passenger seating capacity. There is no weight or seating restriction on this category – providing the vehicle is rigid based (no trailer exceeding 750kg), it can be driven on a category D licence. The PCV D entitlement will also allow you to drive double decker coaches and bendy-buses. You are able to sit your PCV D test at the age of 18, providing that you already hold a category B (car) driving licence. You do not need to have held your licence for a certain period of time.

Entry requirements

Prior to practical training, you will need to: complete a medical assessment in order to apply for your provisional licence pass the relevant PCV theory tests We are able to arrange these elements for you as part of our PCV Starter Pack.

The Course

Our PCV D driver training course is completed on a 1-to-1 basis over 2 full days, returning for your practical test on the third and final day. We use fully automatic vehicles for training purposes. By passing in a vehicle with an automatic transmission, you will still be issued a full manual PCV entitlement. Our vehicles have been specified by us from new to ensure your driver training is as straight forward as possible. The practical driving test is made up of two parts: Module 3A: an ‘S shaped’ reverse exercise into a loading bay You will practice this exercise at our private test facility throughout your driver training course. When you feel ready, our in-house delegated assessor will conduct and sign-off this part of the test. Module 3B: a 60 minute on-the-road drive This will be conducted by a DVSA driving examiner at the end of your practical training course.
