PCV D1 (Minibus) Driver Training
About the licence
PCV D1 is a vehicle with between 8 and 16 passenger seats. By passing the PCV D1 practical test, you will be able to drive a vehicle with up to 16 passengers.
You are able to sit your PCV D1 test at the age of 18, providing that you already hold a category B (car) driving licence. You do not need to have held your licence for a certain period of time.
Drivers who passed their car test prior to 01 January 1997 were automatically issued a D1 entitlement with a 101 restriction code – “not for hire or reward.” The only way to lift this restriction is by completing the PCV D1 practical driver training and test.
Entry requirements
Prior to practical training, you will need to:
complete a medical assessment in order to apply for your provisional licence
pass the relevant PCV theory tests
We are able to arrange these elements for you as part of our PCV Starter Pack.
The Course
Our PCV D1 driver training course is typically completed on a 2-to-1 basis over 2 full days, returning for your practical test on the third and final day.
The practical driving test is made up of two parts:
Module 3A: an ‘S shaped’ reverse exercise into a loading bay
You will practice this exercise at our private test facility throughout your driver training course. When you feel ready, our in-house delegated assessor will conduct and sign-off this part of the test.
Module 3B: a 60 minute on-the-road drive
This will be conducted by a DVSA driving examiner at the end of your practical training course.
Driver CPC
If you intend on using your LGV licence professionally (i.e. use your licence for work purposes/to be paid as a driver), you will need to complete your LGV Driver CPC qualification.
