PCV D1 (Minibus + Trailer) Driver Training

About the licence

Category D1E is a vehicle with up to 16 passenger seats, combined with a trailer in excess of 750kgs Maximum Authorised Mass (MAM). You are able to sit your D1E test at the age of 18, providing that you already hold a category B (car) driving licence. You do not need to have held your licence for a certain period of time. In November 2021, the law changed allowing drivers to take a D1E driving test without having to pass category D1 first.

Entry requirements

Prior to practical training, you will need to: complete a medical assessment in order to apply for your provisional licence pass the relevant PCV theory tests We are able to arrange these elements for you as part of our PCV Starter Pack. If you have already passed your D1 driving test, you do not need to complete the above steps.

The Course

Our PCV D1E driver training course is typically completed on a 1-to-1 basis over 2 full days, including practical test. The practical driving test is made up of two parts: Module 3A: an ‘S shaped’ reverse exercise into a loading bay You will practice this exercise at our private test facility throughout your driver training course. When you feel ready, our in-house delegated assessor will conduct and sign-off this part of the test. Module 3B: a 60 minute on-the-road drive This will be conducted by a DVSA driving examiner at the end of your practical training course.

Driver CPC

If you intend on using your PCV licence professionally (i.e. use your licence for work purposes/to be paid as a driver), you will need to complete your LGV Driver CPC qualification. You can read more about Driver CPC by clicking here.
